Abstract
Atmospheric extinction due to Rayleigh, water vapor, and mixed gases is discussed. Particular emphasis is given to water vapor absorption. A method for determining the amount of precipitable water vapor, calibrating it using LOWTRAN, and calculating the atmospheric transmission has been in use at Mount Laguna Observatory for five years. This method and the results from it are discussed.
