Abstract

Although the models discussed above show some appealing features one has to be aware of the fact that they involve several approximations. Up to now our attempts to unify the approaches above and to overcome their shortcomings (the neglect of dissipation under the barrier in one case and the neglect of tunneling in the other case) have not been satisfactory. Trying to use the path integral influence functional formalism [15] for imaginary times leads to equations which up to now we were not able to solve except in simple limits.
