Abstract
The first part of this book has compiled the various lines of research concerning the phenomenon of co-ordination: Chapter 2 has examined important aspects of co-ordination in human societies, while Chapter 3 has given an overview of DAI research with a special focus on co-ordination among artificial agents. At this point, it is convenient to relate the state of the art to our objectives listed in Chapter 1. Consequently, this chapter first analyses existing DAI from this perspective and then motivates the work that will be described in the rest of the book.
