Abstract

In this book we have analyzed the properties of particles or fields in constrained two-dimensional geometries. The objects in question (e.g., electrons in quantum heterostructures or EM fields in rectangular waveguides) are assumed to move essentially in two dimensions. Their motion is further constrained by an effective interaction which confines them to a finite area. For the effective confining force, we have taken a square well of infinite depth, i.e. infinite hard wall boundary conditions.
