Abstract

Recent measurements of forward jet and single forward hadron production at HERA are described. An introduction is given to some of the consequences of various QCD approximation schemes used in the calculation of forward jet and particle production cross sections.

The HERA co-ordinate system has its origin at the nominal interaction point, its z axis in the proton direction and its y axis vertical; the x axis completes the right- handed orthogonal co-ordinate system. Polar angles are denoted by θ and azimuthal angles by ø. The term “forward” refers to the region for which θ < 90°.
