Decrease of Ferromagnetic Transition Temperature in Nonstoichiometric SrRu1−v O3 Perovskites

Abstract

We have discovered that synthesis at high-pressure oxygen of 600 atm at 1100°C produces nonstoichiometric SrRu1−v O3 perovskites with randomly distributed vacancies on the Ru-sites. The increased amount of Ru vacancies rapidly suppresses the ferromagnetic T C from 162 to 86K for Δv ∼ 0.06. We associate the decrease of T C with an increased formal valence of Ru and the induced structural disorder.
