Abstract

If the vortex moves with respect to a liquid, classical [1] or quantum, there is a force on the vortex normal to the relative vortex velocity with respect to the liquid. This is the Magnus force, which plays an important role in modern condensed-matter physics. In particular, it determines the mutual fiction in superfluids [2],[3],[4] and the Hall effect in superconductors [5].
