Abstract
Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) emerged from the domain of Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI). Early MAS were designed to solve highly abstracted complex distributed planning problems. Simultaneously, MAS were used in the robotic domain to control production machines performing repetitious work in a world full of disturbances. Today, MAS technology is increasingly applied to InformationSystems (IS). The ever-growing complexity of modern IS and the difficulty to foresee all potentially arising disturbances makes them an inviting test bed for MAS.
