Abstract
This paper presents a formalism for modelling and reasoning about multidimensional databases. It is supported by a rule-based system based on a multidimensional logic, which we call ML(ω), extended with aggregation meta-predicates. The system supports a hierarchy of aggregation dimensions by mapping those dimensions to actual dimensions of ML(ω), and aggregation meta-predicates basically perform data transformations over specified aggregation dimensions. We demonstrate that the rule-based system can be used as a deductive front-end to a multidimensional database stored in a data warehouse and can be used as an aid in decision suport systems.
