Abstract

This paper evaluates the structure and the performance of lexical finite-state transducers (FST) used to describe and tag complex multiword temporal adverbs in texts. First, a quick overview of the formal variation allowed by expressions involving the time-related noun ano (year) will be presented. Results from the application to a corpus will then be presented and discussed. Finally, the paper suggests a measure for evaluating linguistic coverage and adequacy of the FST.

Research for this paper was partly supported by FCT (project grant POSI/PLP/34729/99).
