Abstract

Obviously there are still open questions that can only be answered by further practical experience. Examples of such problems are:

1.

Should the component-based approach of systems architecture also be used to let the geoscientist “tailor” her/his own GIS with freely configurable components? Is this realistic?
2.

How can the spatial and temporal techniques of database access be used for the support of picture and raster-based multi media applications? How can the object-based access be realized to achieve the access to a specified target in an animation or in a video sequence?
