Abstract

How do we pay for things on the Internet? The way it is done now is using SSL. SSL is a fairly straightforward protocol, at least it’s straightforward enough to have already been analysed using methods that I like, but it isn’t really a satisfactory way. Now the SET protocol is a very complicated thing, its take-up has been very low at present, and it may be that it is not the protocol which will eventually solve this problem. What is certain is that some better protocol than SSL will appear. I think that ordinary customers are going to demand it, and even small vendors as well, because just sending your credit card number isn’t really a very happy solution.
