Abstract
Recent developments in commodity hardware and software have enabled workstation clusters to provide a cost-effective HPC environment which has become increasingly attractive to many users. However, in practice workstation clusters often fail to exploit their potential advantages. This paper proposes a tailored benchmark suite for clusters called Speciffic Cluster Operation and Performance Evaluation (SCOPE) and shows how this may be used in a methodology for a comprehensive examination of workstation cluster performance.
