Zusammenfassung
In der Neuzeit gehören die beiden enteropathogenen Yersiniaspezies Yersinia enterocolica und Y. pseudotuberculosis zu den häufigsten Krankeitserregern unter den Yersinien. Das Spektrum der Erkrankungen ist allerdings weit gefächert und beschränkt sich mit zahlreichen Manifestationen wie Arthritis, Sepsis, Erythema nodosum nicht nur auf die am häufigsten auftretenden Durchfallerkrankungen.
Neben diesen beiden enteropathogenen Spezies gibt es noch eine Reihe anderer Yersinien, zu denen als bekannteste Y. pestis, der Erreger der Pest, gehört. Alle anderen, so Y. aldovae, Y. bercovieri, Y. fredericksenii, Y. intermedia, Y. kristensenii, Y. mollaretii und Y. rohdei, sind zwar vielfach in der Umwelt nachweisbar, aber in der Regel nicht humanpathogen.
