Abstract

Membrane computing [PĂun, 2000] is a new and fruitful paradigm of natural computing. The present paper is devoted to some preliminary ideas about how membrane computing can be applied to linguistics. To this end, first some concepts are defined which introduce what we call linguistic P systems. Then, three examples of quite simple applications to pragmatics, phonetic evolution, and dialogue are discussed.
