Abstract
In a recent interview Ray urzweil stated that in the year 2019 a $1000- computer will have computational power that is comparable to the human brain [Spi00].This means it would be able to perform around 20 million billion operations per second. In the year 2029 he supposes software for ‘intelligence’ will be available that offers the capability to organise its own knowledge and share it with other computers more easily than humans can.One PC will then be doing the work of 1000 human brains. The important question however remains unanswered, what makes the consciousness of a human being? Each human is an individual, having his own understanding of certain things. If intelligence is considered to be the capability to solve (recurring) problems in a limited amount of time, then computers are already better than humans.
