Wie in den vorangegangenen Kapiteln gezeigt werden konnte, ergibt sich durch die funktionale bzw. molekulare Bildgebung der PET/CT ein großes Potential zur Gewinnung zusätzlicher oder früherer Informationen über Entwicklung, Ausbreitung und ggf. Rezidiv einer bösartigen Erkrankung. Zugleich beinhaltet dieser Vorzug jedoch auch das Problem der Artefaktanfälligkeit bzw. die Möglichkeit der so genannten “falsch positiven” und “falsch negativen” Befunde. Gute pathophysiologische Grundkenntnisse sowie ein gewisses Verständnis für die ablaufenden technisch-apparativen Prozesse helfen, derartige Pitfalls zumindest zu minimieren.
