Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff „Obstipation“ ist ein Sammeltopf fur verschiedene Symptome und insofern unscharf. Die veraltete, aber noch oft benutzte Lehrbuchdefinition für Obstipation lautet »weniger als 3 Stuhlentleerungen pro Woche«. 10–20% der Bevölkerung bezeichnen sich in Umfragen als verstopft, aber nur1/4 von ihnen hat eine niedrige Stuhlfrequenz [1, 2]. Einige Patienten befürchten schädliche Folgen durch die lange Verweildauer des Stuhls im Körper und sind tatsachlich durch die niedrige Stuhlfrequenz beunruhigt. Die meisten aber geben als Hauptbeschwerde die Notwendigkeit zum heftigen Pressen zur Stuhlentleerung an.
