Pixel Detectors

Part of the book series: Particle Acceleration and Detection ((PARTICLE))

Abstract

Pixel detectors have been originally developed for particle physics applications. The next generation of experiments at hadron colliders can greatly profit from the unique characteristics of the pixel detectors, provided these can be tailored to the demanding environment expected at these machines. These requirements boosted the activities around pixel detectors and also favored their development for imaging applications in biomedicine and in astronomy.
