Zusammenfassung
Das posttraumatische zervikoenzephale Syndrom, welches typischerweise durch eine plötzliche Beschleunigung oder Abbremsung des Kopfes relativ zum Körper, wie z.B. bei Auffahrkollisionen im Straßenverkehr, ausgelöst wird, ist neben somatischen auch durch neuropsychologische Beschwerden gekennzeichnet. Unter neuropsychologischen Funktionen werden mentale Prozesse verstanden, die das Denken, das Verhalten, das Empfinden und die Wahrnehmung betreffen und die oft auch als kognitive Funktionen bezeichnet werden. Die beim zervikoenzephalen Syndrom auftretenden neuropsychologischen Beeinträchtigungen betreffen insbesondere die kognitiven Bereiche der Aufmerksamkeit und der Konzentration sowie des Gedächtnisses. Bei chronischem Beschwerdeverlauf leiden mehr als die Hälfte der betroffenen Patienten unter derartigen Beeinträchtigungen (Di Stefano 1999).
