Zusammenfassung
Sieht man sich die Entwicklung der verschiedenen Reparationsverfahren zur Hernienchirurgie innerhalb der letzten 30 Jahre an, fällt auf, dass sich hier ein immenser Wandel vollzogen hat. Während in den 70er-Jahren noch 80% aller Patienten mit einem Bassini-Verfahren und etwa 20% mit einer Shouldice-Reparation versorgt wurden, wandelte sich das Verhältnis Anfang der 80er-Jahre mit Zunahme der Shouldice-Reparationen und stetiger Abnahme der Bassini-Reparationen. Seit Mitte der 80er-Jahre kam es dann zunehmend zur Verwendung alloplastischer Materialien in der Hernienchirurgie. Eine aktuelle Übersicht zeigt, dass gegenwärtig in den Vereinigten Staaten jährlich etwa 600.000 Hernien operiert werden. Davon werden 400.000 konventionell mit einem Netz versorgt, 150.000 laparoskopisch mit Netz und nur noch etwa 20.000 konventionell. Zur Verfügung stehen dabei insgesamt 4 Operationsmethoden:

die Onlaynetzplastik nach Lichtenstein,

die inguinale präperitoneale Netzplastik nach Rives,

die bilaterale präperitoneale Netzplastik nach Stoppa,

der Mesh-Plug Repair nach Rutkow.
