Abstract

Beam loss monitoring becomes essential if lost particles cause non-tolerable activation of accelerator components by nuclear reactions. Moreover, components can be destroyed by the radiation or due to thermal heating by lost energetic particles. Sensitive beam loss monitoring can help the operator to achieve high transmission through a machine up to the target, including the optimization of complex beam transport systems.
