Abstract

We present the first results of a low resolution, long slit study of 16 active and 15 normal galaxies. The galaxies of each sample chosen have similar Hubble types and similar distributions in redshift space and Holmberg magnitude. Using an 800 × 800 TI 3PCCD we were able to cover the 4500–7500 Å spectral region at a resolution of 10 Å, the 2.5 arc-second by 4.0 arc-minute long slit allowed us to cover both nuclear, near-nuclear and far off-nuclear emission line regions.
