Abstract

Recent developments in the field of energetic ion-atom collisions are reviewed. Specific emphasis is given to electron spectroscopy measurements at high-energy accelerators. Experiments using projectile energies from about 10 keV/u to 1 GeV/u are treated. Collision induced electron emission of continuous electrons is considered under the specific aspect of the two-center Coulomb field created by the target and projectile nucleus. High-resolution spectra of x rays and Auger electrons are discussed in connection with recent studies of atomic structure properties and alignment effects. Experimental evidence for electron-correlation effects in ion atom collisions is summarized. Various two-electron processes such as transfer-excitation, double capture, and double ionization are considered.
