Treatment of small metallic clusters with quantum chemical methods

Abstract

The quantum chemical treatment of neutral and cationic lithium clusters reveals some very general basic features which exhibit in a simple way why quite different quantum mechanical approaches yield very similar results concerning the cluster structure. An insight in the reasons for the occurence of “magic numbers” is given.
