Abstract

This paper introduces the Cambridge Ring, a “Slotted ring” communications system with a raw data rate of 10 Megabits/sec, and outlines how it is used to provide a Distributed Computing System in the Computer Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. The Ring architecture and protocols are described in detail and form the major part of the paper.
