Neutron and x-ray scattering study on K0.3MoO3 and other quasi one dimensional conductors

Abstract

Phase transitions to the charge density wave states in K0.3MoO3' (TaSe4)2I, (NbSe4)2 I, Mo8O23 and γ-Mo4O11 are studied mainly mainly by neutron and X-ray scattering techniques in order to see the natures of the electron phonon interaction in materials near the metal-insulator boundary. The transition in K0.3MoO3 may be understood by a band picture. The behavior of the transition in (NbSe4)2I cannot be considered simply as the one of the band electrons. The magnetic susceptibility of the compound Mo8O23 seems to be a unique example of the behavior predicted by Lee et al. for the fluctuation of one dimensional conductors
