Resonances — Models and Phenomena

Part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Physics ((LNP,volume 211))

Abstract

In nuclear physics, the main characteristic features of resonances is that their width is narrow and their spacing is small. This reflects the complicated nature of the resonance states and calls for statistical theories rather than for a dynamical description of individual resonances. A microscopic understanding of the resonance process is nevertheless required, in particular for the identification and the interpretation of observed nonstatisticaZ features.
