Abstract

The importance of end effects in the cellular selection process in Taylor-Couette flow has been demonstrated. A universal law governing the primary flow exchange process has been demonstrated to hold for all of the flows studied. In addition, new types of flow viz. the anomalous modes, have been investigated and demonstrated to exhibit regular behaviour. Finally, end effects have beer shown to be of the utmost importance in the cell number selection process.
