Abstract

A method for constructing a grid system for calculating the transonic flow field about complex configurations with multiple components is described. In this approach the computational domain is divided into multiple overlapping subdomains, which are defined according to the different components of the configuration. Surface fitted grids are generated separately for the different components and then interfaced with each other in such a way that accuracy of the solution algorithm is maintained. In each subdomain the transonic full potential equation in non conservative form is solved by using the S.L.O.R. iteration scheme. As a test case, the present method has been applied to subcritical, supercritical, lifting and non lifting flows over a three-dimensional configuration with two components, a wing-fuselage combination.
