Abstract

Spin-isospin modes in nuclei are shown to be an excellent tool to investigate the spin-isospin dependent part of the particle-hole interaction. Many-body effects in connection with the recently discovered magnetic high spin states and Gamow-Teller resonances are discussed. The interaction deduced from the present analysis does not imply precritical phenomena attributed to pion condensation.
