Abstract
A characterization of SO(n) representations containing a vector stabilized by subgroups of the type S[O(n-p) × O(p)] or SU(k) × U(1) or SU(k) if n = 2k is given. Large use is made of the Gelfand-Zetlin basis, which yields operative methods of some interest in gauge models.
