Abstract
All the intermediate energy facilities currently possess research programs involving the use of nucleon probes to both elucidate detailed structure of the nucleon-nucleon interaction as well as to explore the high momentum characteristics of nucleon reactions with nuclear systems. In this paper I will present a review of recent experimental activity concerning the production of pions by both polarised and unpolarised nucleons incident on few-nucleon targets. I shall be concerned, primarily, with discussing recent results from LAMPF, SACLAY, SIN and TRIUMF, emphasizing those topics represented by contributed papers to this meeting. I shall endeavour to compare the results from the different laboratories with each other and with current theoretical expectations where such exist. The reaction types to be discussed include: NN → π x, N3He → π x, and will also involve some discussion of the 180° elastic scattering of nucleons by few-nucleon systems (x refers to anything, single or multi-particle final nucleon states).

The data of Albrow et al. were obtained using a polarised target and unpolarised beam. In order to facilitate comparison with other data, the results in Fig.4B have been plotted as though the beam was polarised and the target unpolarised.
