Abstract
Emissions from highly purified TIC1 and TlBr are studied. The emission due to the radiative decay of the molecule of X +6 xR −6 excitons by leaving one X +6 xR −6 exciton and one M-point phonon through indirect process is found in the vicinity of the absorption edge. The emission due to the radiative decay of two X +6 xR −6 excitons at the same M-point with leaving one X +6 xX −6 exciton at the P-point through zero-phonon process is observed at the energy far lower than the edge.

The energy of the triplet state of the X +6 x X −6 exciton in TlBr is not known. We assume that the energy separations between the three levels in TlBr are proportional to those in TlC1. We then estimate the energy of the triplet state in TIBr from the observed energy separations between three levels in TlC1 and the observed energy separation between two singlet-triplet states in TlBr.
