Abstract

The absorption in heavy ion scattering is treated by considering the Pauli-forbidden regions of phase space for the scattering of bound nucleons. An energy dependent imaginary potential is derived which is both surface transparent and strongly absorptive in the interior region. The model is sufficient to explain the main features of the 16O-16O excitation functions up to 80 MeV.
