Abstract

Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) is the method of choice for morphological imaging of the airways and associated diseases. High isotropic resolution and high contrast are the ideal prerequisites to generate multiplanar reformats (MPRs), MinIPs, MIPs, and 3D and even 4D techniques in order to demonstrate the typical findings of airway diseases, such as bronchiectasis, bronchial wall thickening, mucus plugging, tree-in-bud pattern, mosaic attenuation pattern, or air trapping. The main diseases of the airways studied by MDCT include bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, asthma, primary ciliary dyskinesia, tracheobronchomalacia, relapsing polychondritis, and bronchiolitis.
