Abstract

A flatness-based two-degree-of-freedom control is applied to industrial semi-batch reactors. The advanced process control scheme makes use of a calorimetric model of the reactor in order to calculate the nominal nonlinear feedforward; the feedback part consists of a simple PID control. Results from production are presented, which show the performance and effectiveness of the applied control.

Keywords: Semi-batch reactor, advanced process control, two-degree-offreedom control, PID control, differential flatness, nonlinear feedforward control, disturbance feedforward, trajectory planning.
