Abstract

This chapter covers two topics. An introduction into the field of the main disciplines used in computational intelligence and detailed description of real-world applications which make use of computational intelligence. The introduction describes fuzzy logic and evolutionary algorithms in detail, whereas the artificial neural networks are only described briefly. For a more detailed introduction see the chapter of Moraga in this book. The application explained in the later part of this chapter are based on projects carried out by the author and funded by the European community (EC) or the German research society (DFG).
