Abstract
This book presupposes a knowledge of basic matrix theory, for which there are good introductory texts. The books (Gantmaher, 1967) and (Bellman, 1970) are classical. For more details about the notions presented in Chapter 1 also see (Stewart and gun, 1990). The stability definitions presented in Section 1.2 are particularly taken from the books (Reissig et al., 1974), (Bellman, 1953), and (Vidyasagar, 1993). Books that provide a broader look at the subjects we cover include the books (Coppel, 1965), (Harris and Miles, 1980), (Khalil, 1992), (Kohan, 1994), (Nijmeijer and van der Schaft, 1990), (Rugh, 1996), (Slotine and Li, 1991), (Sontag, 1990), (Willems, 1971), etc. The material of Section 1.7 is based on Section 3.1 (Daleckii and Krein, 1974). The material of Sections 1.10–1.12 is adapted from (Gil’, 1995). Estimates for roots of algebraic equations can be found in the book (Ostrovski, 1973, p. 277).
