Abstract

High spectral resolution observations of young low mass stars at near infrared (NIR) wavelengths are crucial in order to probe deep into their circumstellar environment. In this contribution I review results obtained from a survey of T Tauri stars (TTS) performed with CGS4 on UKIRT and present preliminary line profiles of HeI λ10830 obtained with ISAAC and Phoenix that show it as tracer of both winds and accretion flows. Finally, I mention some of the problems associated to the understanding of T Tauri stars and their environment, that can be tackled with observations by new high resolution NIR spectrographs and hence help us to better understand these systems.
