Abstract

Nowadays, anaphora resolution systems obtain satisfactory results when applied to restricted domains or specific texts. The problem arises when changes of the text (e.g. from one domain to another), or changes of the kind of text (e.g. from non-dialogue texts to dialogues) are attempted. In this case, results are not as good as people hope. In this paper, this problem and the relationship between anaphora resolution and dialogue structure is presented. Thus, we start with an initial anaphora resolution system applied to non-dialogue texts and we study its impact in dialogue texts. From this system, we have developed some experiments to demonstrate the need for using dialogue structure information in order to solve the anaphora in this kind of corpora.
