Abstract

Developing applications in a new language is a worthwhile exercise. It can be used both to expose weaknesses in the language and to demonstrate the effectiveness of its (new) features.

This chapter has two purposes. The first is simply to introduce RML, by way of concrete examples, and show how some typical specification may be written and organized. The second is to describe the ‘test-bed’ applications we have written in RML, and some of the experiences gained from writing them. They have also been used for benchmarking the compiler and runtime system(s); these results are presented in Chapter 10.
