Fysiotherapie kan bijdragen aan het voorkomen en behandelen van stoornissen in de ademhalingsfunctie en het bewegingsapparaat op de icu. Stoornissen in de ademhalingsfunctie waarbij fysiotherapie bijdraagt in de behandeling kunnen onderverdeeld worden in stoornissen in de tracheobronchiale klaring en stoornissen in de ventilatie.
