The Breakthrough to Lung Scanning

In 1960,we had no idea of lung or sketetal imaging as we indulged in blue sky forecasting of what nuclear medicine might accomplish. As is the case with most innovations, both of these developments occurred in response to recognized problems.Lung scanning was invented in 1963 illustrating Arthur Koestler’s concept of the “act of creation”. Creativity occurs when previously unconnected matrices of experience intersect. The new synthesis occurs at the intersection of two planes of experience. The development of lung scanning resulted from the study of the reticuloendothelial system (RES)with radioactive albumin particles.
