Abstract

During the 1940s and 1950s, independent labels that catered specifically to Latino audiences tended to feature stiff portraits of musicians or color ful illustrations that condescendingly harped on the perceived primitive nature of the music. Though they may have cheapened the product, in retrospect we can be thankful for the window into the past these covers now provide.
