Summary
This chapter presented an overview of basic logic design. The focus was mostly on the design techniques and not on their theoretical background. We covered combinational and sequential circuits at the gate and RT levels. At the combinational gate-level, we discussed Karnaugh maps, but mainly concentrated on the use of iterative hardware and packages. In the sequential part, state machines were treated at the gate level; we also discussed sequential packages such as counters and shift-registers. The use of these packages facilitates RT level designs and use of HDLs in design.
