Summary
The mobility management problem in a wireless network has been introduced in this chapter. Along with a historical perspective on the development of MMTs, two representative MMTs, HLR/VLR and Hierarchical MMT, have been described in detail. Profile replication is motivated to improve the performance of MMTs. In addition to defining the system model, various issues related to profile replication have been discussed. The material on literature surveys aims to sketch a big picture, and details related to specific topics are included in later chapters.
