Abstract
This book addresses two problems related to real-time systems with stochastic behaviour. The first problem is the analysis of deadline miss ratios of tasks and task graphs with stochastic task execution times under fairly generous assumptions. The second problem is the deadline miss ratio minimisation by means of task mapping and priority assignment. The combined solution to both problems opens the possibility of low-cost implementation of soft real-time systems, i.e. systems in which deadline violations are tolerated provided that they occur sufficiently rarely.
