Abstract

H.E.S.S. (High Energy Stereoscopic System) is a new system of four imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes for gamma ray astronomy optimized for the 100 GeV to 10 TeV energy range located in Namibia on 1835m a.s.l.. Each telescope is equipped with a 107m2 mirror and a high resolution camera build out of 960 photomultipliers. This article reports on first results on the Crab Nebula, the supernova remnant SN 1006, the galactic center and the active galactic nucleus (AGN) PKS 2155-304.
