Abstract

We consider the dynamics of rotation of a two-component neutron star with pinning and depinning of neutron vortices in the superfluid core. Solutions are obtained for the spin-down relaxation rate after a sudden glitch in the rotation rate. These solutions are compared with the observational data on the first eight post-glitch relaxations of the Vela pulsar. It is shown that vortex pinning and depinning between glitches and changes of the vortex number density in the superfluid region during a glitch can produce postglitch relaxations with observed parameters and time constants.
